Characteristics of forgings

Compared with castings, metals can improve their microstructure and mechanical properties after forging processing. After the casting structure undergoes hot working deformation through forging methods, due to the deformation and recrystallization of the metal, the original coarse dendrites and columnar grains are transformed into fine-grained and uniformly sized equiaxed recrystallized structures. This compacts and welds the original segregation, porosity, and slag inclusions within the steel ingot, making the structure more compact and enhancing the plasticity and mechanical properties of the metal.
The mechanical properties of castings are lower than those of forgings of the same material. In addition, forging processing can ensure the continuity of the metal fiber structure, keeping the fiber structure of the forging consistent with its shape, and ensuring the integrity of the metal flow lines. This can guarantee that the parts have good mechanical properties and a long service life. Forgings produced by precision die forging, cold extrusion, warm extrusion and other processes are all incomparable to castings
A forging is an object in which metal is subjected to pressure to shape the required form or an appropriate compressive force through plastic deformation. This kind of power is typically achieved through the use of a hammer or pressure. The forging process builds a fine granular structure and improves the physical properties of the metal. In the practical application of components, a correct design can ensure that the particle flow is in the direction of the main pressure. Castings are metal formed objects obtained by various casting methods. That is, the molten metal that has been smelted is injected into the pre-prepared mold by pouring, injection, suction or other casting methods. After cooling, it undergoes shakeout, cleaning and post-treatment, etc., to obtain objects with certain shapes, sizes and properties.
